Saving an environment as a template
- From the Left Navigation menu choose Environments, and then select the environment you wish to save as a template. You will be redirected to the Environment details page.
- Choose Save as template from the Action dropdown in the Top Navigation menu.
- In the Create new template window enter a name for the new template and then click Create.
Tip: Add a version number to your template to help you and other users identify the template. For example “Course X – Environment template (version 2.0)”
- Give the VM images in the template a custom VM image prefix / suffix (optional), for example:
Original VM image name = DB001
Prefix = V2-
Suffix = -2021
New VM image name = V2-DB001-2021
Adding a custom prefix or suffix is optional. If the fields are left blank, there will be no change to the VM image names.
If there are multiple VMs, then all VM Images created will have the updated names.
Note: The prefix and suffix is only visible in the new VM images collection - the original names are retained inside the new template.
Heropa will now start preparing the template by cloning the VMs and configuration. This process can take between 5 minutes and 1 hour depending on the size of the environment and amount of disk storage used.
Checking the status of a new template
You can check on the status of the template by opening the Template details page. You will notice that the new VM images have a status of Pending while the cloning process is happening in the background. Once all VM images have a status of Available the new template is ready.
